Christmas Music

[Ed. All of this music can be found here in the store.]

You can find a lot of pre-reading and on-the-staff elementary Christmas music I’ve arranged over the years in the music store.

I’ll try to group it by level. But when it comes to arranging Christmas music, I don’t always stay true to the levels used in method books.  That is not a problem with my students.

Here’s some advice for beginning teachers. Give your students Christmas music that is easier than in their method books, so they can learn several tunes each week. After a few years of lessons, they will know many carols and songs.

Thank you for Christmas music and everything you do and put on your site for us . I also found the Bingo Cards you have put on. Next week will be full of fun. We practice some rhythum and excitement was great when I said we would play bingo. Thanks

      LaRae,
Glad you like the Christmas music! Hope they have fun playing Bingo!

  2. Thank you so much! I especially love the prereading ones. I currently have a 5-year-old student that is still in prereading so doing one or two of your arrangements will be perfect!

Lauren, I’m just like you. I don’t push young children into reading notes on the staff until they are ready. Some are ready in a week and some over a year. It depends on the age. I want students to enjoy piano time so they will stick around. If you push them to read too soon, they will get frustrated, not want to practice, and cry at home. When your student is ready, check out that series of beginning pieces I wrote that feature one note at a time. (A is for Alligator, B is for Bears Playing Baseball, etc.) Five-year-olds love those.

Thanks so much to all of you who left comments about this Christmas music and donations to help with the server costs. It is very encouraging. I’m sorry if I don’t have versions that fit your needs right now, but I’m always adding more things, so keep checking back!

  4. This is a great list! I’ve been using quite a few of these already, and my students are just getting into Christmas music now. I’m going to share it with my studio so they know where to get great arrangements. Thanks!

  5. Thank you for sharing! Do you have any suggestions or arrangements for black key pre-reading Christmas pieces? I have quite a few little ones right now who are not playing all 5 fingers on the white keys, but I would love to get them some Christmas/winter-type pieces.

  6. Thank you so much for sharing these, Susan! I was wondering, would it be possible to arrange We Three Kings so that middle C is not shared by both hands? I have some students who are not used to this position and are struggling with alternating their thumbs on middle C.

  7. Thanks so much for all your brilliant resources Susan. I just wondered if you have done any arrangements for 6 or 8 hands at 1 piano?? Many thanks.

Yes, I have Philippa. I might be able to get one up this year. As I’ve mentioned before I don’t like to post things until I’ve actually tried them out. And with trios, it is hard to get students together to test them out for me. Would you be interested in giving it a run through?
