Piano Camp for Teachers!
I am so excited about the Piano Camp for Teachers next week in Houston. If you have never attended a session with Elizabeth, you are in for a treat. I have learned so much from her because she has such great, practical suggestions. I went to my first workshop with Elizabeth many years ago, and I still remember and use her tips every day I teach. Plus I keep all of her hand outs for reference.
We will start with getting to know each other over coffee and pastries. Then Elizabeth will give a session on teaching music reading. She will have some practical ideas to take home and use. Do you ever get frustrated teaching scales? Are you unsure how to go about teaching scales, and are they important for our students to learn? After a break, Â Elizabeth is going to present how to use scales with our students.
Valentine’s House of Music is giving us a complimentary lunch. Then I am going to present all kinds of games and activities to help solve different kinds of teaching problems. In this intimate setting, we will be able to play some games so you can see how they work, as well as practical suggestions on how to use off the bench activities. If you are a hands on learner like me, you need to see these games in person. If you have any questions about how to get started using games in a piano lesson, this will help you out. Yes, you can play games in a 30 minute lesson!
Finally, Elizabeth has a selection of great “Easy, Sounds Hard” pupil savers pieces for those tough times when we need some music to get over rough spots. Elizabeth has so much professional experience in the music business that she knows just about everything ever published, so I am really looking forward to that session. Valentine’s House of Music is going to have the music there if we want to buy it for our students. There will be music from various publishers that will become your students’ favorites. New teachers should not miss this!
We are going to have some great door prizes, so please come on and join us next week. I would love to meet you!

I am in Port Orchard in the state of Washington. I’m so sad I can’t afford to come to Texas for this workshop! I wondered if you would consider recording each session and offering the DVD’s for me to purchase at a later date? I would willingly pay for such a treasure! I’m sure others would as well.
This looks like a lot of fun! Would love to have you come to Jacksonville, FL. We have a bunch of piano teachers in the area!
Susan,
I read this and so want to come to something like this. I love your materials. I was just in Houston last week, and have now returned to Westlake, Ohio right out of Cleveland. Is there any way that this could be offered in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Skyline Music Store offers workshops all the time and many piano teachers attend. Just thought I would ask????
Barbara,
I’m so sorry you missed it by a few weeks! Thanks for the suggestion for an Ohio clinic! It is not possible now, but who knows about the future? Have projector, will travel!
