Spybot is a mysterious sounding piece in A minor at the elementary or late elementary level, depending on how fast it’s played! A spybot is a robot that is capable of creeping around and spying on things. The music starts off with simple staccato quarter notes as the spybot is casually snooping around. But on the second page the music suddenly changes to eighth notes as the spybot discovers something interesting or maybe even dangerous! This is an opportunity for students to use their imagination to tell a musical story. What is the spybot looking for? What happens when the music speeds up? This piece is good for poor readers because it can be taught by rote, and it gets them playing!

My late elementary students love playing this piece. It is a good staccato note study and is fun to play.

Sheryl, I’m glad to hear that. It is a fun way to get some 8th note practice!
