Sneaky Sneakers is a descriptive elementary piece in D minor 5-finger position. It has plenty of staccatos that convey the image of sneakers tip-toeing around, as well as contrasting legato notes. Sneaky Sneakers has a Halloween sound, but it can be played anytime of the year. There is a fun accelerando at the end that adds to the fun. This music will work on articulation, dynamic changes, and simple hand shifts, and is good for an older elementary student.

My student who just left for college played “Sneaky Sneakers” on his first recital 10 years ago! It’s so fun, and while it’s appropriate for fall, it’s also fine for any time of year. Thank you, Susan, for writing wonderful music for our young students.

  2. Mary Tunnell

This is a great piece for Halloween recitals, or any time during the year. I just used this piece with a transfer student who is “stuck” in C position and he had fun with it.

Planning a fall recital and I was looking for a song that would be fun and able to be played year-round. I am selling it to the students as a Halloween piece but it can be played whenever the students are ready. I have often talked to parents about how something as simple as the title of the song helps the student want to practice it. Most of my kids are between 6-12 so it’s appealing to them. I have yet to have a student not like one of Susan Paradis’ songs! Check out The Dragon’s Lair or The Boy Who Didn’t Like Halloween!

Dr. Saylor, thank you so much for such kind words!
