Songs I Already Know is a collection of 10 well-known children’s songs arranged for young beginners with lyrics, duet parts, and hand drawn illustrations. The melodies are written in a variety of hand positions on or near middle C to encourage children not to associate a finger with a certain piano key. There are a minimum of finger numbers and expression marks so children can concentrate on note reading. Each song includes an optional easy piano duet part. Parents and siblings often have trouble reading two hands on one staff, which is how most teacher duets are written at this level. However, the duets in Songs I Already Know are written on the treble and bass staves to make it easier for parents and older students to play along.

Songs I Already Know is an 23-page PRINTABLE PDF file measuring 8.5 x 11 inches. The file includes the color cover, a table of contents, ten songs with optional duets, and a page for students to check off the songs they learn. Love this book!! I bought it and immediately gave it to 4 elementary students, two of whom practice very little. All four played the entire book the day I gave it to them and they absolutely loved singing while playing these songs over and over and over!! For younger students I assign 2 songs per week and for older students I assign several songs as sight-reading. Just gave this to a couple of my students yesterday! One is still in early elementary level and his sister is late elementary. BUT…I think these songs will get them practicing for a little bit. She played all 10 songs during a part of her lesson. He made it through most, but has to work because of the moving hand positions. (That’s great!!)

Melissa, thanks for your comment. Sometimes I underestimate how much harder it is when the hand positions change, even though I try so hard to give the different positions so they don’t get locked into one! I think it is just how some students think.

I can’t wait to use this new book, “Songs I Already Know”. Not only are the songs familiar to most of my students, the duets make them even more fun. They are so well done….simple, yet just right. I like the fact that they aren’t busy enough to distract my little ones while we play together. This will be the perfect “back to lessons” activity for a lot of my students when we start next week. It will be a lesson for some and a sight reading activity for others. Thank you, Susan Paradis! You’ve done it again!!

I was excited to see Susan’s new book “Songs I Already Know”. Unfortunately, I have found that my students DO NOT know some of these songs, so it will be a double learning tool. The art work is beautiful and so reflective of each song. I love playing duets with my students, and that is a real bonus in Susan’s new book.
