Made for the iPad: More Rhythm Notes

The Let’s Draw Series helps students learn how to draw notes, rests, and clef signs. Drawing this symbols can really be a challenge for for even older students to draw. I decided to make some graphics to help students not only draw the symbols correctly, but draw the symbols with the correct placement on the staff.

The graphics I made show students the correct symbol placement on the staff in a step by step manner. First they trace the symbol, then they add lines to partially drawn symbols so they understand the placement. Finally they draw the symbol themselves.

Print on card stock and laminate or put them in sheet protectors and use an erasable marker. That way they can erase and repeat the drawing until they can do it correctly.

These large sized symbols are printed one to a page in order to focus on individual symbols. Set the page orientation to landscape for printing.

Landscape orientation and the large size makes this set easy to draw symbols using an iPad. If you have an iPad or mobile device, use your favorite app for drawing on a PDF.

Symbols used are:

• Treble clef
• Bass clef
• Bass clef
• Whole note
• Half note
• Dotted half note
• Quarter note
• Eighth note
• Beamed eighth notes
• Sixteenth notes
• Beamed sixteenth notes
• Whole rest
• Half rest
• Quarter rest
• Eighth rest
• Sixteenth rest
• Notes with stems going down

  1. Help! I am new to the whole “ipad business”. I now have one and am trying to get caught up on this technology. I have downloaded the MetaMojiLite, but what next? How do I get your stuff on it? I can’t print off the instructions because I’m not hooked up to my printer (another “duh” thing I haven’t figured out yet) Can you email me what to do next? Or provide a link to follow on my old PC?

Karen, have you tried the tutorial I posted last week? If that doesn’t make any sense, send me an email. I will be glad to walk you through it.
