Last week I posted beginning levels and today I am posting a set of 3 more levels. As you can see, the difficulty increases quite a bit. The first page reviews eighth notes and rests. The second page adds 16th notes and rests. Level 6 adds the triplet, more 16th note patterns, and 6/8 time signatures. To print these free worksheets, click on the link above.
Objectives:
- review late elementary through early intermediate rhythm concepts
- discover the rhythm knowledge of a transfer student
- use with band or orchestra students who often learn rhythm concepts faster than piano students
- test the knowledge of piano students who are moving up into a higher level method book
- review concepts for the theory test or similar exams
You create absolutely beautiful material. Have you considered printing this in book form? I can imagine a number of students would buy the material if it were readily available.

I would love to see a triad inversion review, where students practice identifying inversions and coloring in the root note. I think coloring in the root note will help them see that the root is at the top for first inversion and in the middle for second. I would also love to see some practice identifying the root of the V6/5 chord. Students are always confused about that one. I’ve made some practice sheets myself, but yours are always better! Sharon, that is an excellent idea! My students have so much trouble with that, and they have to learn it for our state theory test.

Susan, Thank you for the Rhythm Review sheets. They are very ‘kid friendly’ with large spaces and colors. They are also very revealing as to what my students need to work on. Writing out the timing is the biggest issue.
We did find one typo, p. 16, #3, meas 4. The word ‘sicteenth’.

Thanks for the feedback because I wondered if there was any interest. It will be a while before I can get them ready. I’ve got some things made, but no time to “polish” them!
Thank you for posting these thorough review sheets. I love how the print is large enough that they can be put in sheet protectors and be reused with dry erase markers with multiple students!
Quite a few teachers are doing this nowadays, and if you have a lot of students it certainly will save a lot of ink! I still put things in their binders, but I’m going to try sheet protectors one of these days.
